Energilia Wallonia and the Regional Energy Transition

Why take part in a sharing activity like Energilia Wallonia?

First of all, it is important to understand the difference between an energy community (EC) and a sharing activity:

  • An energy community is an independent legal entity (often a non-profit organization) that brings together several members — citizens, companies, associations, or local authorities — under independent and autonomous governance. The members of this structure set the operating rules, manage relations between members, and ensure compliance with the legal framework and the recommendations established by the CWaPE.
  • A sharing activity (or operation) is a concrete project implemented within an energy community, which organizes the distribution of electricity produced by certain members for the benefit of others. Each activity is therefore hosted within an EC, but has its own scope, participants, and management arrangements.

A Legal and Institutional Framework in Support of Communities

Since 2023, Wallonia has established a clear legal framework to enable the creation of energy communities. These collective structures allow everyone — individuals, SMEs, and public authorities — to share locally produced electricity (often solar or wind), using the existing distribution network.

The CWaPE (Walloon Energy Commission) oversees these communities and ensures that they operate transparently, fairly, and in compliance with regulations.

What if your electricity no longer came from a distant market, but from your own neighborhood?

By joining the Energilia Wallonia sharing activity, hosted within the ES2 energy community, you take part in a more local and solidarity-based approach to energy.

You are no longer solely dependent on major suppliers or global markets: you share electricity produced here in Wallonia by citizens, SMEs, and public institutions committed to renewable energy.

That’s the spirit of local, shared, and collectively managed energy.

Energilia Wallonia: a Sharing Operation Serving Regional Ambitions

Energilia Wallonia is fully aligned with this strategy:

By redistributing this energy between the members of the same city or the same neighborhood.

By guaranteeing stable prices, local autonomy, and a direct reduction in CO₂ emissions.

By pooling local energy production (solar panels on roofs..).
